This Week in RUF
FALL 2008 is HERE!
Hard to believe how quickly summer goes by. Classes start Wednesday, August 27th. A couple of things are coming up...
- FIRST RUF -- Thursday, August 28th, 7:30pm. East Village Lodge. (EV Lodge attaches to Bldg A and is across the street from Trezevant; see campus map) Our opening night will set up the whole semester and be an opportunity to meet new students. Come by and bring a friend.
- DINNER OUT THE NEXT NIGHT (Friday 6pm) -- There's a Welcome Week pool party at 8:30pm that night, so let's go out to eat a few hours before. Meet at 6pm in front of McCoy Theatre Friday, August 28th.
- RUF FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE -- Saturday, August 30th, 1pm is draft time in the Lair. Come for a late lunch and we'll start the draft as we eat. If you've never done this before and are interested, come by and we'll gladly set you up. Winner gets any item from the RUF booktable. To setup your team, click the blue box "Join a League". - REDEEMER CHURCH w/ LUNCH -- Sunday, August 31st, 10am. Looking for a church home? Meet in front of McCoy Theatre at 10am to go to Redeemer Pres. Church w/ lunch after.
- PARTIES -- These are very important, obviously. We'll have them throughout the semester. Possible ideas for the Program Team: Fall Costume Party, Barn Dance, Christmas Party, etc. Serve on the Program Team to help pull these off!
- WELCOME BACK COOKOUT -- Thursday, September 4th, 6:30pm (EV Patio; just before RUF)
- SMALL GROUPS -- Freshman Bible Study starts Monday, Sept. 8th, 4pm, in Trezevant Conservatory. (Trezevant Conservatory is located in the walkway between Trezevant and Townsend.) Check back next week for more info on other small groups
- FALL CONFERENCE '08 -- October 10-12.
We'll be in north Memphis at a camp with brand new facilities and Dr.
Bryan Chapell as our speaker. That name may not mean much to most of
you, but it's amazing that we get to have him. He is the president of
Covenant Seminary in St. Louis and a much-in-demand conference
speaker. We'll join RUFs from Ole Miss, Arkansas, UT Martin, Belmont
College, MTSU, and The University of Memphis.
- SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES -- Spring Break to New Orleans! We'll work on homes and get to know families. We'll also have opportunities to serve the Rhodes campus and Memphis throughout the year.
Churches
Freshmen especially, on Sunday, August 24th, at 10am there is a Religious Life Reception in front of Evergreen Presbyterian Church across the street from Rhodes. This is an opportunity to familiarize yourself with campus ministries and more. After the reception there is Rhodes Community Worship inside the church at 11am.
If you're looking for a church home, join us Sunday, August 31st, at 10am in front of McCoy Theatre to ride to Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Redeemer loves college students! It meets about a mile from campus. Redeemer has an Adopt-a-College-Student program this fall where you can sign up to go in groups of 3 students to have lunch monthly in the home of a church family.
